Another component of the educational program “Speak Truth To Power” is a photographic exhibition consisting of portraits of international human rights activists. The portraits were created by renowned photographer and Pulitzer Prize winner Eddie Adams (1933-2004) specifically for Kerry Kennedy's book Speak Truth To Power: Human Rights Defenders Who Are Changing Our World.
We use this exhibition in Switzerland to introduce students and interested public to human rights and to our educational program “STTP”. The exhibition was shown for the first time in autumn of 2015 at the Kunst (Zeug) Haus in Rapperswil as part of a cooperation with the IG Halle association. The opening was attended by three inspiring human rights activists: Marina Pisklakova (Russia), Gabor Gombos (Hungary), and Nobel Peace Prize laureate José Ramos-Horta (East Timor). The exhibition was attended by a total of over 3,500 people. In addition, over 500 school children took part in 30 workshops organized by the association Artefix Kultur & Schule.
The photo exhibition is constantly on display in various locations in Switzerland and regularly receives school classes for specially developed workshops. Teachers will find a box with didactic suggestions for the exhibition, thus allowing students and teachers the opportunity to learn more about the life of the individual activists and the overall importance of human rights for everyday life.
